Highest Paying Jobs In America In 2017

According to a list of the highest paying occupations in the United States – compiled by LinkedIn, a massive professional hub that connects professionals and compiles jobs data – the 20 most lucrative jobs in the country include quite a few positions in the medical and healthcare field.
In putting together its list, LinkedIn looked to the salary data that verified LinkedIn members provided. Each job title considered for the roster had to have at least 50 salary reports from those members.  C-Level jobs were not included in LinkedIn’s report.

All in all, a dozen of the 20 jobs on the list fall into the medical or healthcare sector. Near the top of the list – at number 3 – was the position of an anesthesiologist. Workers in that role, according to the numbers, earn a median annual salary of $350,000. That’s more than the median salary for a surgeon, which brings a $338,000 paycheck and placed fourth. In Second place, with a median salary of $355,000, was the role of the radiologist. Practitioners in that field interpret images from X-rays, CT scans, ultrasounds and MRIs, as well as those obtained from other types of scans.

In the first place, the highest-paid job in the United States is cardiologist—a doctor specially trained in diagnosing and treating conditions of the heart and blood vessels.  Cardiologists, according to LinkedIn, make a median salary of $356,000 a year.

Of the non-healthcare positions on the top-20 list, the highest-paid was that of senior corporate counsel—a lawyer retained by a company that focuses exclusively on the legal needs of that company. Such workers earn $175,000 in median annual income. That job held the 10th spot on the list.

Next highest non-medical job was staff software engineer – which placed 11th – and that role earns $168,000.
